Weather: Hot & sticky. At least it cools off a bit overnight. I think I'd prefer the rain & the mozzies. The cat became an instant hero last night when it caught a mouse. Matt came back with a marker pen, for use to mark the laundry before it went off to the river to be washed, but left it on the dashboard of the car that has been loaned to us by Kevin. Some time later, he stumbled out to the driveway & started foraging through Timson's car (Timson is the District Commissioner), whereupon Timson, who'd been watching him, said, "Can I help you? It is my car you're in, after all." The 3 toilets we fixed yesterday have all died again. The power goes off regularly & the water pressure fluctuates so much that the laundry ladies took all of our washing down to the river, providing Sally & Alice with a real "cultural experience". They came back wet, happy, exhausted & sunburnt. HUGE thanks to Kevin from the Point Cruz Yacht Club for loaning us a car, a BBQ, trestle tables, toaster & food bowls, as well as acting as chauffeur for half the day. He's also the Chairman of Solomon Islands Scouts. We have : Pulled out the kitchen, which was falling apart anyway. Installed external shower enclosures. Installed the water filter, so that we no longer have to buy huge quantities of bottled water. Yesterday's website page has been extensively updated with photos.
